All funds raised by Bulgarian 56 Peaks are donated directly to Foundation "For Our Children" (detebg.org) — a Bulgarian organisation with 33 years of experience supporting vulnerable children and families. We also run our own local Vitosha mountain conservation project.
Through Foundation "For Our Children" (detebg.org), we fund early childhood development programs at community centres in Sofia and Plovdiv. Our donations help provide safe, stimulating environments for Bulgaria's most vulnerable babies and young children — those at risk of poverty, abandonment, or family breakdown.
Foundation "For Our Children" has changed 30,000+ lives over 33 years of operation. Our contributions help sustain the day centres and residential programs that give children the healthy, supported start they deserve.
In Bulgaria, more than 2 children enter state care every day. Through detebg.org we fund the frontline social workers, psychologists, and family counsellors who intervene before it reaches that point — helping families in crisis stay together and protecting children from violence and neglect.
Bulgaria has 400,000+ children at risk of poverty. Our contributions to detebg.org's family support services help keep children safe at home and reduce the number entering institutional care.
For children who cannot remain with their birth families, detebg.org provides a network of foster care centres and specialist day programs. We also fund their work with children with disabilities — over 32,000 of whom live in Bulgaria — giving them structured, therapeutic environments where they can learn, grow, and thrive.
Through detebg.org's foster care network, children find loving homes rather than institutions. Our donations help sustain the trained foster families and specialist therapists who make that possible.
Vitosha is Sofia's mountain — and the place where many of us took our first steps on the trail. As our nearest peak and a natural sanctuary for hundreds of thousands of hikers each year, we're committed to giving something back. Our upcoming Vitosha initiative will install wooden rest benches along key routes and carry out hands-on maintenance of marked hiking trails.
This initiative is currently in the planning stage. We are identifying routes, securing permits, and sourcing materials. Follow our updates to see the first benches go up on the slopes of Vitosha.
